  MP meets Norfolk's top cop

Norfolk Police Headquarters
Richard Bacon MP met with Ian McPherson at Norfolk Police's
Wymondham headquarters

South Norfolk MP Richard Bacon has met with Norfolk’s new Chief Constable, Mr Ian McPherson, to discuss policing in the county.

During the meeting, Mr Bacon raised several issues with Mr McPherson, including anti-social behaviour, the problems of policing a large rural area such as South Norfolk and the planned budget for the police force.

Mr Bacon also sought reassurances about the constabulary’s plans for Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) who will be patrolling in South Norfolk following a Home Office squeeze on PCSO funding.

Mr Bacon said: “I was delighted to meet with Mr McPherson and I am impressed at his obvious commitment to the county and his determination to hit the ground running.  His appointment will bring stability to Norfolk Police, following a turbulent period for policing in the region”.

Mr McPherson began his career with Lancashire Police in 1979 and was Deputy Chief Constable of North Yorkshire prior to his appointment as Chief Constable of Norfolk Police.
