Richard Bacon MP (right) celebrates
with 2006 David Black Award winner
Philip Richardson

South Norfolk MP Richard Bacon has congratulated Norfolk pig farmer Philip Richardson on receiving the prestigious David Black Award, the leading accolade in the British pig industry, at a ceremony in the House of Lords.

Mr Richardson, who farms near Wymondham, was chosen as the winner of the 2006 award because of his many years of commitment to the British pig industry.

He is an active member of many farming groups and agricultural charities whilst continuing to grow a highly successful pig-farming business. Mr Richardson produces the pork for the Budgens supermarket, which only stocks British meat and feature his face on its packaging.

Mr Bacon said today: “This is a special honour which Philip richly deserves. He has worked tirelessly on behalf of the British pig industry and helped to build awareness of the importance of locally produced food.  I thank him for all his hard work on behalf of both farmers and consumers”.
